Greece 2016

The 2016 OPA Astrology Conference and Sacred Sites Journey in GREECE

OPA is organizing an incredible event in Greece. The program consists of an Astrology Conference in Athens, (May 27 to 30, 2016), and a tour in sacred Sites (Mainland and Islands: My 31 to June 9, 2016). This is a special opportunity to return to the Hellenistic roots of Astrology, and connect with the greater astrology community in Europe.

About the program:

Part I - The Conference (May 27-30, 2016)

OPA is delighted to organize a conference in Europe, bringing together different cultures and astrology perspectives. Speakers from across Europe (incl. Greece itself) and the United States will present fascinating lectures, pertinent to our times.

See below the full list of speakers and topics

The great majority of the presentations will be offered in English, as most Greeks speak English. It all begins on Friday night with a welcome gathering - cocktail party - at the Royal Olympic Hotel where we will be spending the next several days. This property is a classic, elegant, five-star hotel with all amenities in a superb location opposite Zeus’s temple, and near the Acropolis. On Monday May 30, we will offer OPA’s signature Peer Group as a post conference intensive. This will be another opportunity to take part in what is a rich, fun and rewarding way to expand your personal and astrological horizons.

Part II - Sacred Sites Journey - Post Conference (May 31 - June 9, 2016)

Following the inspiration from the conference, the journey will depart from Athens on Tuesday, May 31, for island and country adventures with a local 'Greek God Complex' twist. Imagine yourself, walking the land of Zeus (Jupiter) and Chiron, sailing on the mythical Aegean waters overlooking the Santorini volcano, visiting the striking islands of Paros, Delos, Santorini and Mykonos while watching the most colorful sunsets as the sun dips into the deep blue and turquoise sea. You can be assured of a memorable, educational and transformative experience!

Beginning on the mainland, we will travel to the charming seaside town of Nafplion, one of Greece’s older capitals. It is a lovely historic port with its medieval fort, cobblestone streets, quaint shops and restaurants. En route we will visit Mycenae which was a major center of the Minoan civilization in the second millennium BC, and the ancient theater at Epidaurus. This was the birthplace of Apollo’s son, Asclepius, an eminent healer in the pantheon of the gods and goddesses. Today the theatre continues to be admired for its exceptional acoustics and for its capacity to hold up to 14,000 spectators.

We will visit scenic Delphi, one of the most sacred sites in Greece, considered the navel of Gaia, and a site of important rituals, including the Delphi Oracle. It is where Apollo was worshipped in ancient times. Nearby, we will go to the Tholos, the picturesque sanctuary honoring the goddess Athena, where we will learn about the myths of Pythia and their mysterious and powerful influence during times of war and peace at the site of the Delphic Oracle. This area has been a vital and important region since 1400BC, both in the ancient and modern worlds. Delphi is located on beautiful Mount Parnassus where the village is boldly situated on its hillside.

Delphi - Navel of Grandmother Earth (Gaia)

After our mountain ventures, we board an inter-island ferry to the sunny, traditional and rocky island of Paros which we will use as a base for our visits to the islands of Mykonos and nearby smaller Delos, where no one is allowed to spend the night as to preserve its spiritual integrity.

About the Island of Delos:

Delos, a Unesco World Heritage site, is one of the most important mythological, historical and archaeological sites in Greece. In the ancient times, the myth of god Apollo, god of light, and goddess Artemis, the twin offspring of Zeus by Leto, having been born there rendered the island sacred: no mortal would ever be allowed to be born on its land. But, a cradle of gods as the island has been, no mortals would ever be allowed to die on it either.

The Lion District, occupying the north end of the ruins, is named for the famous Terrace of the Lions (7th century BC). Here at least nine elegant lions made of Naxian marble guarded the sanctuary, looking out to the Sacred Lake. This arrangement recalls the avenues of guardian animals in Egypt, such as at Karnak.

Paros is known for its whitewashed cubic houses and impressive neoclassical mansions. In the middle of the village stands a well preserved 13th century Venetian castle offering an amazing view of Parikía, its main town. A special day in Paros will be spent at the Spiritual Center Taos , originally established by Israeli Zen Master Nissim Amon, for meditation, Chi-Kung, and yoga...and then of course, beach time!

We will also explore the artsy, glamorous streets of Mykonos, with its sand side bars, famous town and windmills.

Tao's Center in Paros

Our last destination, the spectacular volcanic island of Santorini, legendary home of Atlantis with its dramatic cliffs plunging hundreds of feet into the sea, is our last stop. We will visit the site of Akrotiri, the Minoan Age settlement which was destroyed in the Theran eruption about 1627 BC. It is a stunning sight as we walk through an entire town with remarkable multiple story houses, even domestic plumbing, excavated from the ashes of the great explosion. You can envision the civilization of ancient Atlantis on Santorini’s majestic cliffs and shores. We will also sail to the caldera on a private tour boat, hike and explore the surrounding area. Our day will end on board our vessel with a special catered farewell dinner on the unforgettable waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
